9 Days Bhutan Tour

The 9-day Bhutan tour itinerary offers an incredible opportunity to explore both western and central Bhutan, including the scenic districts of Trongsa and Bumthang. Central Bhutan, particularly Bumthang, is considered the spiritual heart of the kingdom. Known for its four charming valleys—Tang, Ura, Chumey, and Choekhor—Bumthang is a place of profound cultural and religious significance. It is the birthplace of the revered saint Pema Lingpa, and scattered across the valleys are many important landmarks and pilgrimage sites that offer a deep connection to Bhutan's spiritual traditions.

The itinerary starts with visits to majestic dzongs (fortresses), which are architectural marvels and centers of Bhutanese governance and religion. Some of the most iconic dzongs you’ll visit include the Punakha Dzong in the west, perched at the confluence of two rivers, and the Trongsa Dzong, an ancient fort that once served as the seat of the Wangchuk dynasty.

As you journey through the picturesque valleys of Bumthang, you'll explore the beauty of ancient temples and monasteries, including the famous Jambay Lhakhang and Kurjey Lhakhang, known for their connection to Bhutan’s earliest Buddhist teachings. In addition to religious sites, the region offers stunning landscapes and opportunities for cultural immersion.

One of the highlights of your 9-day Bhutan adventure is the hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang), one of Bhutan’s most iconic sites. Perched high on a cliffside, this sacred site offers breathtaking views and a deep spiritual experience. Another must-see on your journey is the Divine Madman’s Temple in Punakha, dedicated to the eccentric saint Drukpa Kunley.

Throughout this journey, you will immerse yourself in the beauty of Bhutan’s pristine nature, rich culture, and sacred history, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

GOOD TO KNOW

Visa Requirement
All tourists, except for nationals from India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, require a visa to visit Bhutan. The visa is processed through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator and is included in your tour package.

Currency
The currency used in Bhutan is the Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN), which is pegged to the Indian Rupee (INR). Indian Rupees are accepted in Bhutan, but it’s recommended to carry local currency for smaller transactions.

Altitude
Bhutan is a mountainous country with many high-altitude destinations. While most tourists do not face issues, be mindful of altitude sickness if you're visiting high-altitude locations like Tiger’s Nest Monastery (3,120 meters). It’s best to take it easy on the first day and stay hydrated.

Weather
Bhutan has four distinct seasons:

  • Spring (March to May): Ideal for travel, with pleasant weather and blooming flowers.
  • Summer (June to August): Rainy season, with possible disruptions in travel due to monsoons.
  • Autumn (September to November): Clear skies, cool temperatures, and perfect for sightseeing and trekking.
  • Winter (December to February): Cold but clear weather, especially in high-altitude regions.

Language
The official language is Dzongkha. However, English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas, and most Bhutanese are fluent in English.

Time Zone
Bhutan follows Bhutan Time (BTT), which is GMT+6. Bhutan does not observe daylight saving time.

Electricity
Bhutan uses 230V with Type D and Type G plug types, similar to India and the UK. Be sure to carry a suitable travel adapter for your electronic devices.

Dress Code
Bhutan is a conservative country, and visitors are advised to dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites. For trekking, wear comfortable and sturdy hiking shoes, layered clothing, and sun protection.

Tipping
Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. It is customary to tip guides, drivers, and hotel staff for good service, though amounts are generally small.

Safety
Bhutan is one of the safest countries to visit. However, always keep your valuables secure and respect local customs and traditions. Avoid engaging in political discussions during your travels.
