6 NIGHTS 7 DAYS BHUTAN TOUR

Embark on a journey to the hidden paradise of Bhutan, often referred to as the "Hidden Shangri-La." Sherpa Expedition & Trekking presents a captivating 6 night 7-day package to this extraordinary and lesser-explored country. Bhutan is renowned for its commitment to happiness and well-being, setting it apart in a world driven by materialistic pursuits. This adventure will take you through the two major cities of Wangdue Phodrang, Thimphu, and the charming town of Paro.

Bhutan, a Buddhist kingdom nestled on the eastern edge of the mighty Himalayas, is a land of enchantment. Its monasteries, fortresses, and awe-inspiring landscapes encompass everything from lush lowland subtropical plains to rugged mountains and deep valleys. Among the many treks, Mt. Jomolhari stands tall at 7,326m, attracting adventure seekers from around the globe. Another gem is the Paro Taktsang Monastery, famously known as Tiger's Nest, perched precariously on the cliffs above the dense forests of Paro Valley. This sacred sanctuary, built in 1692, is believed to be the place where Guru Padmasambhava meditated for four months in the 8th century, surrounding the Taktsang Senge Samdup cave.

Bhutan's commitment to conservation is commendable, with over 72% of the country covered in forests and 51.4% designated as protected areas. The diverse wildlife includes 103 tigers, while the national animal, the takin, is a fascinating creature that appears to be a unique blend of an ox, antelope, sheep, and goat.

Sherpa Expedition & Trekking offers a range of tours, travel, and holiday packages to Bhutan. As a neighboring country of Nepal, we provide private, group, and cross-country tours to ensure a personalized experience for every traveler. Bhutan, a country that opened its doors to tourists in 1974, can be easily accessed by air from Nepal to Paro.

Our packages follow a single uniform rate per person per day, determined by the Bhutan government. We believe in delivering the same exceptional quality to all our guests, without any budget, standard, or deluxe options. With full board inclusion, encompassing all meals and sightseeing fees, you can immerse yourself in the wonders of Bhutan without any worries or hassles.

Don't miss this incredible opportunity to explore the "Hidden Shangri-La" with Sherpa Expedition & Trekking. Discover the magic, tranquility, and happiness that await you in the mesmerizing land of Bhutan.

ITINERARY

Expand All

After arriving at Paro airport your passport will be stamped with a visa. You will need your visa approval letter and two passport size photos. Your guide will be there to meet you and take you to your 3 star hotel.

Today we will visit the ruined fortress of Drukgyel Dzong which was a fortress and Buddhist monastery located in the upper part of the Paro District, Bhutan. The Dzong was probably built by Tenzin Drukdra in 1649 to celebrate a victory over the invading Tibetans. We will also hike to Taktsang monastery, a 45-minute uphill trek through villages and a pine forest. The monastery clings to a huge granite cliff 800 meters from the Paro valley. In the afternoon we head through the beautiful valley to the museum located within the Ta-Dzong building. It was established in 1968 by the third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The seven floors museum highlights various aspects of Bhutanese culture and history dating back to the 7th century. A short walk downhill is the Rinpung Dzong which is the administrative center and school for monks. From here we cross a bridge and head back to Paro Town for a walk around the market. We will stay here overnight in a 3 star hotel.

This afternoon visit: the Memorial Chorten built-in memory of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the 15th-century Changangkha Monastery, Motithang Takin Preserve to see the rare Takin – the national animal of Bhutan. A little further on we can look down on the beautiful Thimphu Valley. We will also visit the new Drupthob Nunnery Monastery. You will then have some free time to wander around the market. We will stay in a 3-star hotel tonight.

This morning we will pay a visit to the royal goldsmith workshop, the traditional Bhutanese painting school, the National Library, and several handicraft centers. In the afternoon we will drive for around three hours to Wangdue Phodrang via the Dochula Pass (3100m). In good weather, you can see the eastern mountain ranges as well as the highest mountain in Bhutan, Mt.Gangkhar Puensum (7570m). From the pass, we head down to the valleys of Lobesa and on to Wangdue Phodrang Dzong to the markets. We will stay here overnight at a 3-star hotel.

Today we head to the Gangtey Gompa (monastery) in the Gangtey Valley, also known as the Phobjikha Valley. The only Nyingmalung monastery in western Bhutan is located here. This beautiful valley is also the migratory home to the rare Black Necked Cranes from the Tibetan plateau. The cranes spend about four to five months here while escaping the more harsh Tibetan winter. We will have time to wander around and explore this amazing glacier-carved valley and then return to Wangdue. Tonight we will stay at a 3-star hotel.

This morning we drive for about 45 minutes to Punakha and visit the Punakha Dzong which was once the old capital of Bhutan. This incredible fortress is located between two rivers and has survived many glacial floods and fire. In February a procession known as the Punakha Serda takes place to commemorate the victory over the Tibetans. We will then drive for around three hours to Thimphu in time for lunch and then another two hours to Paro, via the oldest building in Bhutan, the Simtokha Dzong. It is now a Buddhist university. We will stay here overnight at a 3-star hotel.

This is our last day in this amazing kingdom as we head to Paro Airport for our flight back to Kathmandu or other destinations. Sherpa Expedition & Trekking can arrange your ticket from and return to Kathmandu with Druk Air. This journey through Bhutan will be a talking point for many years. Very few people get to visit this remarkable forgotten kingdom.

GOOD TO KNOW

When planning a tour to Bhutan, it's important to have all the necessary details to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. Here are some key things to know:

1. Visa and Entry Requirements: All visitors to Bhutan, except for citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, require a visa. Visa applications can only be made through licensed Bhutanese tour operators, such as Sherpa Expedition and Trekking. The tour operator will handle the visa application process on your behalf.

2. Tourism Policy: Bhutan has a unique tourism policy aimed at preserving its culture, environment, and way of life. The government requires all tourists to book their trip through a licensed tour operator and travel on a pre-planned itinerary. A minimum daily package fee is also applicable, which covers accommodation, meals, transportation, and a guide.

3. Best Time to Visit: The ideal time to visit Bhutan is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These months offer pleasant weather and clear skies, making it perfect for outdoor activities and sightseeing. However, Bhutan can be visited year-round, each season offering its own charm.

4. Cultural Etiquette: Bhutan is a deeply religious and culturally rich country, and it's important to respect its customs and traditions. Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites, and remove your shoes before entering temples or monasteries. It's also customary to circumambulate religious sites in a clockwise direction.

5. Health and Safety: Bhutan is generally a safe country to visit. However, it's always recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies. Altitude sickness can be a concern in higher regions, so acclimatization is important during treks or visits to places like the famous Tiger's Nest Monastery.

6. Currency and Payment: The currency of Bhutan is the Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN). Indian Rupees are also widely accepted in the country. Credit cards are accepted in some hotels and larger establishments, but it's advisable to carry cash for smaller purchases.

7. Communication: The official language of Bhutan is Dzongkha, but English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas. Mobile networks and internet services are available, but coverage may be limited in remote regions.

By keeping these details in mind, you can make the most of your Bhutan tour and fully immerse yourself in the country's unique culture and natural beauty. Sherpa Expedition and Trekking will ensure that your trip is well-planned and memorable, providing you with an authentic Bhutanese experience.
