CHULU WEST PEAK CLIMBING 14 DAYS

Chulu West Peak Climbing is a thrilling and adventurous journey that takes you to one of the lesser-known but equally magnificent peaks in the Annapurna region of Nepal. Standing at 6,419 meters (21,055 feet), Chulu West offers climbers an exciting challenge, combining high-altitude trekking and mountaineering with incredible views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

The expedition typically begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar, followed by a trek through the beautiful Marsyangdi Valley, passing through traditional villages, lush forests, and rivers. The trek gradually ascends to Chulu West Base Camp at around 4,800 meters. Along the way, trekkers are treated to stunning views of Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, and the towering peak of Manaslu, as well as the surrounding landscapes and valleys.

Chulu West is technically a challenging peak, requiring climbers to have prior experience with mountaineering techniques, such as the use of crampons, ice axes, and ropes. After spending time acclimatizing and preparing at the Base Camp, climbers ascend to the High Camp, from where the summit attempt begins. The final ascent to the top involves navigating rocky and icy sections, making it a thrilling experience for seasoned climbers.

Upon reaching the summit, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of some of the most famous peaks in the region, including Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri, and Machapuchare. The descent follows the same route back to Base Camp, and from there, you trek back to lower altitudes, eventually returning to Kathmandu.

Chulu West Peak Climbing is a rewarding experience for climbers looking for a blend of adventure, technical challenge, and spectacular Himalayan scenery.

ITINERARY

Expand All

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel. After checking in, you’ll have free time to rest, explore the city, or shop for any last-minute trekking gear. In the evening, you will have a briefing about the trek and what to expect in the coming days.

After breakfast, you will embark on a scenic 9-11 hour drive to Chame, the administrative center of the Manang District. The drive offers beautiful views of the countryside, terraced fields, and the Himalayas. You will pass through the town of Besisahar before arriving in Chame, where you will spend the night in a local lodge.

The trek begins today with a moderate 4-5 hour hike through forests, past waterfalls, and across bridges. You will ascend gradually toward Pisang, a small village that offers views of the towering peaks of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. Overnight stay in a tea house in Pisang.

Today’s trek is a longer day, taking you to Manang at 3,519 meters. The trail follows the Marsyangdi River and passes through small villages like Upper Pisang. You’ll gain altitude steadily, passing through alpine forests and enjoying spectacular mountain views. The day’s trek takes approximately 7-9 hours. Upon arrival, rest and prepare for the upcoming acclimatization day.

This is an essential acclimatization day to help your body adjust to the high altitude. You can take a short hike to a nearby viewpoint or visit the local monastery. It’s important to relax, hydrate, and take it easy to reduce the risk of altitude sickness.

Today’s trek is shorter but takes you higher, as you make your way to Yak Kharka at 4,018 meters. The trail offers stunning views of Annapurna, Gangapurna, and the surrounding peaks. You will pass through the village of Letdar before reaching Yak Kharka. After 4-5 hours of trekking, you will check into a lodge and rest.

The trek today takes you to the base camp of Chulu West Peak at 4,900 meters. It’s a gradual ascent, and as you near the base camp, the views become even more impressive. Upon arrival, you will settle into your camp and prepare for the upcoming climb.

Today, you’ll trek from Base Camp to High Camp, located at 5,100 meters. The trail is steeper, and you will be gaining altitude as you approach the final push for the summit. The climb will take about 4-5 hours. At High Camp, you will rest, prepare for the summit push, and spend the night.

This is the main climbing day. You will leave High Camp early in the morning and ascend to the summit of Chulu West Peak (6,419 meters). The climb involves technical sections, including snow and ice, requiring the use of crampons, ice axes, and ropes. After reaching the summit and enjoying the panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, you will descend back to Base Camp.

After your summit, you will begin your descent toward Thorong La Phedi. This is a relatively short trek of 5-6 hours, but the altitude will still be a challenge. You will stay overnight at a lodge in Thorong La Phedi, which will serve as your base for the next day’s trek over the Thorong La Pass.

Today is one of the most demanding days of the trek, as you will cross the high-altitude Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters). The ascent to the pass is steep and challenging, but the view from the top is breathtaking. After reaching the pass, you will descend to Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. The entire journey takes about 8-9 hours.

After reaching Muktinath, you will drive to Pokhara, a beautiful lakeside city, for a well-deserved rest. The drive takes around 7-8 hours, and along the way, you will enjoy views of the stunning Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.

On the last leg of the journey, you will drive from Pokhara back to Kathmandu. The drive takes approximately 6-7 hours, and once in Kathmandu, you will have free time to relax or explore the city before your departure.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your international departure. Depending on your flight time, you may have some extra time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing in Kathmandu.
