GOOD TO KNOW

When planning a tour to Bhutan, it's important to have all the necessary details to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. Here are some key things to know:

1. Visa and Entry Requirements: All visitors to Bhutan, except for citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, require a visa. Visa applications can only be made through licensed Bhutanese tour operators, such as Sherpa Expedition and Trekking. The tour operator will handle the visa application process on your behalf.

2. Tourism Policy: Bhutan has a unique tourism policy aimed at preserving its culture, environment, and way of life. The government requires all tourists to book their trip through a licensed tour operator and travel on a pre-planned itinerary. A minimum daily package fee is also applicable, which covers accommodation, meals, transportation, and a guide.

3. Best Time to Visit: The ideal time to visit Bhutan is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These months offer pleasant weather and clear skies, making it perfect for outdoor activities and sightseeing. However, Bhutan can be visited year-round, each season offering its own charm.

4. Cultural Etiquette: Bhutan is a deeply religious and culturally rich country, and it's important to respect its customs and traditions. Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites, and remove your shoes before entering temples or monasteries. It's also customary to circumambulate religious sites in a clockwise direction.

5. Health and Safety: Bhutan is generally a safe country to visit. However, it's always recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies. Altitude sickness can be a concern in higher regions, so acclimatization is important during treks or visits to places like the famous Tiger's Nest Monastery.

6. Currency and Payment: The currency of Bhutan is the Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN). Indian Rupees are also widely accepted in the country. Credit cards are accepted in some hotels and larger establishments, but it's advisable to carry cash for smaller purchases.

7. Communication: The official language of Bhutan is Dzongkha, but English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas. Mobile networks and internet services are available, but coverage may be limited in remote regions.

By keeping these details in mind, you can make the most of your Bhutan tour and fully immerse yourself in the country's unique culture and natural beauty. Sherpa Expedition and Trekking will ensure that your trip is well-planned and memorable, providing you with an authentic Bhutanese experience.
