AMADABLAM BASE CAMP TREK

This is Sherpa Expedition and Trekking's most popular introduction to trekking in the Khumbu region. This 8 Days Beautiful Amadablam Base Camp trek weaves through the famous Buddhist villages (Namche) and monasteries of the Sherpa people while affording unparalleled Himalayas views of some of the world's highest Mountains. The fact of this short trek is the days spent trekking above Namche Bazaar. Here you get beyond the established trails beneath the awesome flanks of Mount Ama Dablam. From our magnificent vantage point, we gain a breathtaking 360-degree mountain panorama that culminates in the distinctive summit of Mount Everest looming above the Nuptse and Lhotse wall. A further dimension to this trek is a visit to the Sherpa villages of Khumjung where we visit some of Sir Edmund Hillary's projects established through the Himalayan Trust.

The 8 days trek version of this trip highlights nine days of trekking in the Everest region, bringing you to the foot of toweringMount  Aba Dablam. Along the way, visit the Sherpa monastery at Tengboche, have lunch at the Beautiful Ama Dablam base camp, and spend time acclimatizing at the world-famous Namche Bazaar

.Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Team will attend to all permits, meals and accommodation on the trek.

Early morning you will be picked up at the hotel by our guide and escort you to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu airport. Then you board the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. During the 40 minutes, you enjoy stunning views of Himalayas. After landing at Tenzing-Hilary airport you meet your porter. He will carry your luggage. Then you start your trekking. Today you trek of three hours. It’s easy and gentle. The trail starts passing a Kani (ceremonial gatehouse). It descends steeply then runs level above Kyangma village, which has a large gompa (monastery) and school. After that, you enter Cheplung village. The trail descends through community forest with the sight of Dudh Koshi River. Crossing suspension bridge it’s a short climb around the ridge to Ghat. Leaving Ghat the trail passes a school and complex of mani walls, Chortens and prayer wheels. Then the trail climbs to the hamlet of Chhuthawa. From Chhuthawa after a short walk, you reach to Phakding. Overnight at a mountain lodge. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included.

After a nice morning, walk continues crossing bridges over Dudh Kosi River passing several interesting villages of Toc-Toc,Bhenkar and Monjo arriving at Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate, from here on the river bed for few hours and after the last bridge a steep uphill to Namche Bazaar, at Namche with facilities of good restaurant, pubs, cyber café, post office, and banks. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included.

This idyllic town is an ideal place for"acclimatization". Health specialists recommend we spend the day being active, rather than sitting idle. From Namche it is possible to take a short hike to Everest View Resort, Thame, visit Khunde or relax and explore Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is the main center of the Everest (Khumbu) region and has government offices, ATMs, internet cafes, shops, restaurants, bakery, and a colorful market each Friday evening and Saturday. A short trek of only a hundred metres will help us to properly acclimatize. Our guides will also take us to the Tourist Visitor Center near the headquarters of the Sagarmatha National Park where we can observe an assortment of relics related to the first mountaineers to climb Everest, Sherpa culture and discover the varied plant and animal life of the Everest region. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.

Today we head off to Tengboche and along the trail have our first views of several enormous peaks: Ama Dablam (6812m), Lhotse Shar (8393m), Taboche (6495m), Khangtega (6782m), and Thamserku (6623m). As we continue we come to an Army barrack at Phunke Tenga (22335m) and arrive at Tengboche where we stop for lunch. After lunch we visit the famous Tibetan Tengboche Buddhist monastery and later continue on the trail and pass the Sagarmatha National park office at Debouche. Continuing we finally reach Pangboche and visit the Gompa (temple). Tonight we stay here.

We trek back down the trail to the bridge at Pangboche and cross the Dudh Kosi before climbing up the far side of the river and following the trail and ridgeline up to the base camp (three and a half hours from Pangboche). The base camp is located in an idyllic spot from which the majority of the route is visible. At an altitude of about 4600m (15,000ft), it provides a comfortable escape from the rigors of the climb. After we visit bse camp we will back to Pangboche. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are Included.

Leaving Pangboche we take a fairly easy trek for around 30 minutes before reaching Tengboche and then descend to Phunkithanga (3200m). Our final trek is to Namche where we can celebrate our success and reminisce sharing the highlights. This is also your last opportunity to appreciate the beauty of these towering peaks. At Namche you can reconnect via the internet with the outside world, visit the bread shop and maybe hang out at a bar!

It is a fairly long day with a 7-hour trek from Namche to Lukla, which is mostly downhill with several sections of level ground. We leave the Sagarmatha National Park and eventually reach Lukla where we stay overnight.

Our morning flight will have us reach Kathmandu in around 30 minutes. During the flight, you will have a birds-eye view of many of the world’s soaring peaks in the Himalaya Ranges. Your guide will escort you from the airport to your hotel. Tonight Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will put on a farewell dinner where we can share memories and our stories.

GOOD TO KNOW

Accommodation

You will be accommodated in 3-star hotels in Kathmandu. During the trek, we will be staying at lodges/ teahouses. You may find comfort and better quality teahouses - having attached bathroom - until Namche which is a thriving town seeing many more tourists and a greater range of accommodation. It should be noted that at higher elevations the quality of accommodation may not be as good, with more basic rooms with the bare necessities.

Meals during the trek

In Kathmandu, your hotel includes breakfast, whereas all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) will be provided during the trek. A staple food of the Khumbu region is potatoes, oats, buckwheat, Sherpa stew and Tibetan bread. Sherpas’ started farming potatoes when the first seeds were introduced to the region in the early 90s. There is a limited choice of food at higher elevations and except many potato dishes. Potatoes are high in carbohydrates – an excellent source of energy needed at high altitudes.

Transportation

We use a private car for sightseeing and for the airport to hotel pick and drop off. We do not have to use public transportation or local buses during the trek. Our only flights are from Kathmandu to Lukla and return.

Physical fitness

EBC is a challenging trek where you often have to walk 6-7 hours a day. You don’t need past experience of hiking or trekking but if you have done any kind of trekking activities then it is always a plus!. We have met people from all walks of life, shapes and sizes who have completed the trek. The only difficult part is when altitude sickness strikes and the effect that it can have on your body. Before leaving for Nepal it is good if you can prepare yourself physically by increasing your stamina and oxygen intake.
Remember – The better prepared – the more enjoyable your trek!
