GOKYO RENJO LA PASS TREK 11 DAYS

The 11 Days Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek is one of the most thrilling and scenic trekking routes in the Everest region of Nepal. This trail takes adventurers through rugged terrains, past serene lakes, and offers stunning views of some of the world's highest peaks, including Mount Everest, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.

The journey begins at Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region, and progresses toward the tranquil Gokyo Lakes. These lakes, nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, are a series of glacial waters surrounded by towering peaks, offering a unique and serene atmosphere. The most striking feature of the trek is the Renjo La Pass, a high-altitude pass that stands at 5,360 meters (17,585 feet) above sea level. Reaching the pass offers panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks, including the majestic Mount Everest and Lhotse, creating a once-in-a-lifetime experience for trekkers.

Along the way, trekkers pass through picturesque Sherpa villages, such as Namche Bazaar, a bustling hub that provides an opportunity to acclimatize and explore the local culture. The unique blend of nature and culture on this trek sets it apart from other Everest treks.

The Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek is not only a challenge for seasoned trekkers but also an opportunity for adventurers to experience the beauty and serenity of the Himalayas in a more remote and quieter setting compared to other popular routes like the Everest Base Camp trek. The combination of pristine lakes, towering peaks, and the high-altitude pass makes this trek an unforgettable experience for those seeking adventure and natural beauty in the heart of Nepal.

ITINERARY

Expand All

The adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. Upon arrival in Lukla, you’ll meet your crew and begin your trek to Phakding, a small village nestled in the Dudh Koshi Valley. The trail follows a gradual descent, offering fantastic views of the surrounding hills. Upon reaching Phakding, you’ll settle in for the night, acclimatizing to the altitude.

After breakfast, you'll continue your trek, crossing several suspension bridges and ascending through beautiful pine forests. The trail offers spectacular views of Mount Thamserku and Kantega. After a steady climb, you’ll reach Namche Bazaar, the bustling Sherpa capital, where trekkers can enjoy some rest and acclimatize. Namche is also a good place to explore the local market, cafes, and enjoy the vibrant culture of the region.

This day is dedicated to acclimatization, which is crucial for high-altitude treks. You can hike to Syangboche or the Everest View Hotel for a panoramic view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. This short hike will help your body adjust to the altitude, while also allowing you to explore the Sherpa culture and the local museum in Namche.

Today, the trail leads you to Dole, a small settlement located above the tree line. You will ascend through forests of juniper and rhododendron, cross several small streams, and pass small Sherpa villages. The day’s hike is slightly challenging due to the altitude, but the views of Mount Cho Oyu and Khumjung will keep you motivated.

From Dole, the trail continues to Machhermo, a small village set amidst beautiful mountain scenery. The hike is relatively short, but the altitude begins to be felt. As you walk, enjoy the views of Tawoche and Cho Oyu. Machhermo is a perfect spot to relax and further acclimatize, ensuring you are prepared for the upcoming high-altitude challenges.

Today, you will reach Gokyo, a picturesque settlement located next to a series of beautiful lakes. After a well-earned lunch in Gokyo, you will hike up to the Fifth Lake, also known as Ngozumpa Tsho. This is a peaceful and stunning location, offering an incredible view of Cho Oyu and the surrounding peaks. After exploring the Fifth Lake, you will return to Gokyo for the night.

This morning, you’ll hike up to Gokyo Ri, a viewpoint located at 5,483 meters. The climb is steep but incredibly rewarding as it offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the Everest massif, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Lhotse. After spending some time soaking in the panoramic vistas, you will descend back to Gokyo for the night.

Today, you will cross the Renjo La Pass, one of the highlights of this trek. The pass, standing at 5,360 meters, offers awe-inspiring views of the Everest region and beyond. The descent from the pass is steep, but you will eventually reach Lungden, a small village situated at 4,350 meters. After a long day of trekking, you can rest and enjoy the quiet atmosphere of Lungden.

After breakfast in Lungden, you will trek downhill to Thame, a historic Sherpa village famous for its monastery. After visiting the Thame Monastery, you’ll continue your descent, passing through lush forests and rivers, eventually reaching Namche Bazaar for an overnight stay.

On the final leg of the trek, you will descend back to Lukla. The trail takes you through beautiful forests, past small Sherpa villages, and across suspension bridges. You will reach Lukla by the evening, where you can relax and celebrate the completion of your trek with your team.

After breakfast in Lukla, you will take a short flight back to Kathmandu, where your journey comes to an end. You can reflect on the incredible experiences and memories from your trek in the Everest region.

This trek is probably the best starting point for people planning to trek the peaks in the Everest Region. The trek difficulty is moderate for an absolutely unprepared person, and easy for experienced hikers. The trek is filled with stunning beauty of the very diverse Himalayan terrain. It was a fine experience with dense forests, plain mountains and rocky regions. The trek to the summit was exceptional, and I witnessed the sunrise of a lifetime at the summit, along with a great panoramic view of Mt. Everest and the Greater Himalayan Range. Climatic conditions were good, except for very strong wind on the way to the summit from base camp. I profusely thank Mr. Lhakpa Sona, the Sherpa who was with me throughout the trek, making accommodation and food arrangements during the trek, and for guiding me at each step as it was my first Himalayan trek. I also thank Mr. Ang Giljin the porter, who carried my personal effects and luggage and was incredibly supportive. Finally, I thank Mr. Ram Barakoti for organizing this trek for me. I'm already making plans for my next trek to Gokyo valley and Mt. Gokyo Ri summit with Lhakpa, as the next step towards my dream of summiting Mt. Everest. Thank you Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd. ! Let's meet again soon.
