The Annapurna Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most renowned trekking routes, offering breathtaking views of the Annapurna range and providing an authentic cultural experience. Sherpa Expedition and Trekking offers an 8-day package designed to take you from Pokhara to Muktinath and back, with a perfect balance of trekking, rest, and acclimatization.
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Besisahar by local bus, followed by a change to a local shared jeep to reach Chame, the starting point of your trek. From Chame, you’ll trek towards Upper Pisang, where you’ll be greeted with panoramic views of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges. The trek continues through the village of Ngawal, eventually reaching Manang, the heart of the region.
Once you arrive at Manang, you’ll spend an essential acclimatization day, allowing your body to adjust to the increasing altitude. During your rest day, you can hike to Lama Cave or Ice Lake, both offering stunning vistas and a chance to explore the area. From Manang, you’ll continue your trek to Yak Kharka, a small high-altitude settlement, where you’ll rest for another day to prepare for the ascent to Thorong Phedi.
At Thorong Phedi, you’ll have the option to acclimatize further by hiking up to High Camp before returning to Phedi for a good night’s rest. The following day, you’ll begin your early morning trek to Thorong La Pass, the highest point of the trek at 5,416 meters. After crossing the pass, you’ll descend to Muktinath, a sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists.
On the final day, you’ll drive back from Muktinath to Pokhara by local bus, concluding this unforgettable adventure across one of the world’s most beautiful trekking circuits.
Your adventure begins with a scenic 9-10 hour drive from Pokhara to Chame, the administrative headquarters of the Manang district. The drive starts with a local bus from Pokhara to Besisahar, followed by a local shared jeep ride to Chame. Along the way, you’ll witness the stunning rural landscapes, terraced fields, and distant mountain views. Upon reaching Chame, the trek officially begins, and you’ll check into a local teahouse for the night, surrounded by the beauty of the Himalayas.
After breakfast, you’ll begin your trek towards Upper Pisang. The trail gradually ascends through pine forests, crossing suspension bridges over raging rivers and passing through several small villages. As you ascend, you'll get your first panoramic views of the majestic Annapurna and Lamjung Himal peaks. The trek to Upper Pisang takes about 5-6 hours, and the village offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, making it a great place to stop and rest for the night.
Today’s trek is slightly longer, taking 8-9 hours to reach Manang, with a stop at Ngawal Village along the way. You’ll trek through alpine forests and picturesque villages, gradually ascending to higher altitudes. Ngawal, a traditional village, offers beautiful Tibetan-style houses and incredible views of the surrounding mountains. As you continue towards Manang, the landscape becomes more barren, offering a glimpse into the high-altitude environment. Once you reach Manang, you’ll be greeted by its unique culture and architecture, and the village will serve as your resting spot for the night.
At this altitude, acclimatization is essential to prevent Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS). You’ll spend the day in Manang, allowing your body time to adjust to the high altitude. This rest day is crucial for your health and overall progress. You can choose to hike to Lama Cave, a serene spot offering stunning views, or trek to Ice Lake, which is a bit more strenuous but equally rewarding. This day helps prepare you for the higher altitudes ahead and ensures a safer ascent.
On Day 5, you’ll leave Manang and trek towards Yak Kharka, which lies at an elevation of 4,200 meters. This day’s trek is more relaxed, taking about 4-5 hours. The trail winds through alpine meadows, with beautiful views of Annapurna III and Gangapurna peaks. As you ascend, the vegetation becomes sparse, and the landscape turns into a rugged, high-altitude environment. Yak Kharka is a small settlement where you’ll spend the night, and it serves as an excellent point to rest before your journey to Thorong Phedi.
Today’s trek will take you from Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi, which sits at an altitude of 4,600 meters. The trail takes around 3-4 hours and offers more rugged terrain. As you approach Thorong Phedi, the environment becomes more barren and rocky, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. This is the final stop before the challenging ascent to Thorong La Pass, so it’s essential to acclimatize and get a good rest here. You’ll have the opportunity to hike up to High Camp for better acclimatization and then descend back to Phedi.
The long-awaited day has arrived, as you will trek across Thorong La Pass, the highest point of the Annapurna Circuit at 5,416 meters. This day is demanding, requiring an early start to reach the pass before adverse weather conditions set in. The trail begins with a steep ascent from Thorong Phedi to Thorong La Pass. After reaching the top, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu. The descent to Muktinath takes another 3-4 hours, passing through rocky terrain and eventually reaching the sacred town of Muktinath, a holy site for both Hindus and Buddhists. You’ll spend the night in Muktinath, reflecting on your journey.
On the final day of the trek, you’ll board a local bus for a scenic 7-9 hour drive from Muktinath back to Pokhara. The drive follows a winding road through the Kali Gandaki Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world. As you descend from the high mountains, you’ll witness the changing landscapes, from barren highlands to lush green valleys. Upon reaching Pokhara, you’ll conclude your trekking adventure with a sense of accomplishment and the chance to relax by the serene Phewa Lake. The trek is now complete, and you can enjoy some well-deserved rest before continuing your travels.
The following information will give you some idea about what you need to bring for the trek. My brother and I had a great trip to the Everest Base Camp. Together with Santa our very well informed gide, who took care of us in a fantastic way and gave us much information during the hike, and Gulzen our porter (who carried each day our two bags of 10kg each plus his own bag....unbelievable). We had a wonderful time in the beautiful Himalayas, it was a lifetime experience!
The Everest Three Pass Trek is hands-down the most beautiful and challenging trek I’ve ever done, and it was made unforgettable by our amazing guide, Pem Dorje Sherpa, from Sherpa Expedition & Trekking. Pem Dorje is a legend in every sense—calm, wise, strong, and full of stories. He knew the trails inside out and constantly kept us motivated, safe, and smiling. From the glacier crossings of Cho La to the dramatic views from Gokyo Ri, he made every moment special. One day, I struggled with altitude headaches, and Pem Dorje immediately adjusted our plan, gave me warm soup, and walked beside me at my pace. That level of care made all the difference. The trail itself is pure magic—massive peaks, prayer flags fluttering in the wind, quiet Sherpa villages, and stunning alpine lakes. We even spotted musk deer and Himalayan pheasants! Sherpa Expedition handled everything professionally, from airport pickup to gear checks. The porters were kind and efficient, and we had zero logistical issues. If you want to push yourself while being fully supported by a kind, knowledgeable guide, ask for Pem Dorje. You’ll finish stronger than you ever imagined—and happier, too.
To say that the Everest Three Pass Trek was life-changing would be an understatement. The stunning peaks, vast glaciers, and kind people left an imprint on my soul. But what truly made the trek magical was Tsering Phurba Sherpa, our incredible guide from Sherpa Expedition & Trekking. Tsering was full of joy, laughter, and strength. He was a motivator and a protector—always keeping an eye on our group, adjusting our itinerary when needed, and celebrating every little win with us. I remember the cold mornings and long days, and how Tsering always had hot tea or a snack ready when we needed it most. His care was beyond professional—it felt personal. He even helped me with my backpack straps to ease shoulder strain, and gave away his spare headlamp to someone who lost theirs. The trek itself was everything I hoped for—raw, rugged, and rewarding. We hiked through snow, ice, rock, and forest. The Gokyo Lakes glowed like crystals, and Everest from Kala Patthar was overwhelming. Sherpa Expedition created the perfect balance between challenge and care. If you want to do this trek right, go with them—and ask for Tsering Phurba. You won’t regret it.
