The Everest Three High Pass Trek is a 13-day trek that is particularly challenging and fulfilling, ideal for thoroughly experienced walkers. Not for novices, this involves high-altitude passes, arduous treks, and steep climbs. For those with the endurance and competence, though, it offers an unparalleled journey through some of the most iconic scenery in the Khumbu region.
The trek begins with one of the most spectacular flights on the planet, the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. The journey begins with a trek from Lukla to Jorsalle through the lush forest in Sagarmatha National Park. You’ll proceed to Namche Bazaar, a vibrant Sherpa village and a good spot to get used to the altitude.
Once in Namche, you will also have the opportunity to explore the region, such as taking a hike to the Everest Viewpoint to see some breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, and other huge peaks. The next day, you’ll hike to Kyanjoma, a village with incredible mountain views and a much-needed pit stop.
From Kyanjoma you’ll continue on your trek from Tengboche, Pangboche, and head to Dingboche, climbing through elegant villages and alpine meadows along the way. You’ll next reach Chhukung, which serves as a rest day for acclimatization. There is a Chhukung Ri hike (5,550 meters) on this day, which views that Makalu and Lhotse and the surrounding sceneries.
Once acclimatized, you will have plenty of time to cross Kongmala Pass (5,535 meters), a more physically demanding climb with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. You’ll continue trekking to Everest Base Camp, located just north of the Khumbu Icefall, where you’ll get to experience the breathtaking scenery of the Everest massif.
You will then proceed to hike to Kala Patthar (5,550 meters), the highest point on the trek, for breathtaking views of Mount Everest. From here you will continue through the crossing of Dzongla and uphill to Renjo La Pass (5,360 meters), which is another high-altitude cross with a beautiful panoramic view.
The next stop is a village nestled around beautiful Lakes. The following day, you will hike up to Thame, then Phakding, and finally return to Lukla. And, finally, you fly back to Kathmandu to end your perfect trek.
It is not for the meek, however, as this trek requires intense planning, training, dormancy, and fevered highs — but for those prepared to try, an adventure of a lifetime amid the Himalayas awaits.
IMPORTANCE NOTICE: This trek is not for beginner trekkers. It is only suitable for very highly experienced trekkers who have completed several treks at altitudes above 5000 meters. Additionally, please note that from March to May and September to December, the Lukla flights will operate from Ramechhap. You will need to drive 5-6 hours from Kathmandu to Ramechhap to catch the flight.
Your adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, one of the world’s most famous airports due to its short runway. After landing, the trek begins with a gradual descent towards Jorsalle, passing through Sherpa villages and beautiful forests. The hike today is relatively moderate, but it allows you to begin your acclimatization process.
This day takes you to Namche Bazaar, the gateway to Everest. The trail is steep as you ascend, but it is worth the effort as you get your first views of Everest and Ama Dablam. After reaching Namche, you will hike up to the Everest View Hotel to enjoy panoramic views of Everest and the surrounding peaks. In the afternoon, you will trek down to Kyanjoma, where you will rest overnight.
From Kyanjoma, you will trek towards Pangboche, passing through Tengboche Monastery along the way. The route takes you through beautiful forests and Sherpa villages, with fantastic views of Ama Dablam. Once in Pangboche, enjoy the serene environment and prepare for the higher altitudes that lie ahead.
Today’s trek takes you to Chhukung, a small settlement located in the Khumbu Valley. The terrain is more challenging as you make your way through rocky trails and high-altitude environments. This will be an important stop for acclimatization as you continue to gain altitude.
The rest day in Chhukung is essential for acclimatization. You will take a half-day hike up to Chhukung Ri, a viewpoint at 5,550 meters, which offers stunning views of Lhotse, Makalu, and Ama Dablam. This hike is a great way to help your body adjust to the altitude while providing breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
Today is one of the most challenging days of the trek. You will cross the Kongma La Pass at 5,535 meters, which involves a steep and strenuous climb. The views from the pass are phenomenal, but the descent down to Lobuche is equally challenging. Once in Lobuche, you will rest for the night, ready for the next day’s trek.
You will trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep, where you will drop off your main luggage and head to Everest Base Camp. The trail to the base camp takes you through rocky terrain, with spectacular views of the Khumbu Icefall and surrounding peaks. Upon reaching Everest Base Camp, enjoy the moment of standing at the foot of the highest mountain on earth. Afterward, return to Gorakshep for the night.
An early morning hike to Kala Patthar is essential for the best views of Mount Everest. The sunrise view from Kala Patthar is one of the most iconic moments of the trek, as you stand at 5,555 meters with a clear view of Everest and the surrounding peaks. Afterward, you will descend to Dzongla to rest for the night.
Crossing Cho La Pass is another strenuous part of the trek. The trail is steep and can be tricky, especially in the winter months when ice and snow can make the path slippery. Upon reaching the pass, the views are truly unforgettable. Afterward, descend to Gokyo, a stunning village located near the Gokyo Lakes, where you will rest for the night.
On Day 10, you will cross the Renjo La Pass at 5,360 meters, offering excellent views of Everest and the Makalu range. The descent to Thame is gradual, passing through beautiful landscapes and smaller Sherpa villages. Thame is a peaceful place to rest and relax after crossing the high pass.
Today’s trek takes you from Thame back down to Phakding, where the terrain is easier. The trail passes through dense forests, and you will start to feel the altitude dropping. Enjoy the beauty of the lower Himalayas as you head towards Phakding, where you will spend the night.
On the last full day of trekking, you will make your way back to Lukla. This is a relatively short day compared to the previous ones, offering you time to reflect on the incredible journey. Once in Lukla, you can relax and celebrate the completion of your trek.
On the final day, take a scenic flight back to Kathmandu. The flight offers stunning aerial views of the Himalayas, providing a perfect ending to an unforgettable adventure. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you can relax or explore the city before continuing your journey.
Note: If you need to return early from the trek due to illness or any unforeseen circumstances, the costs for the flight, hotel, meals, mountain rooms, etc., are non-refundable. You will be responsible for any additional expenses in Kathmandu, including hotel and food costs.

My experience with Sherpa Lhakpa was fantastic! He was incredibly attentive to all of my needs and always had a smile on his face. The trek to Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes was well-organized by the Sherpa Expedition team. Every detail, from the teahouses to the trekking gear, was taken care of. The views along the way were absolutely breathtaking, and I’ll never forget the moment I reached Everest Base Camp.
This trek is probably the best starting point for people planning to trek the peaks in the Everest Region. The trek difficulty is moderate for an absolutely unprepared person, and easy for experienced hikers. The trek is filled with stunning beauty of the very diverse Himalayan terrain. It was a fine experience with dense forests, plain mountains and rocky regions. The trek to the summit was exceptional, and I witnessed the sunrise of a lifetime at the summit, along with a great panoramic view of Mt. Everest and the Greater Himalayan Range. Climatic conditions were good, except for very strong wind on the way to the summit from base camp. I profusely thank Mr. Lhakpa Sona, the Sherpa who was with me throughout the trek, making accommodation and food arrangements during the trek, and for guiding me at each step as it was my first Himalayan trek. I also thank Mr. Ang Giljin the porter, who carried my personal effects and luggage and was incredibly supportive. Finally, I thank Mr. Ram Barakoti for organizing this trek for me. I'm already making plans for my next trek to Gokyo valley and Mt. Gokyo Ri summit with Lhakpa, as the next step towards my dream of summiting Mt. Everest. Thank you Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd. ! Let's meet again soon.
I embarked on the Annapurna Circuit trek with Sherpa Expedition & Trekking, and it exceeded all my expectations. The professionalism of the staff was evident from the start. Our guide was not only skilled but also friendly, making the trek enjoyable and educational. The landscapes were jaw-dropping, with diverse terrain and charming villages. Every day brought new wonders, and the support from the Sherpa team made all the difference. I can’t wait to return for another adventure!
