The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek – 12 Days is a specially crafted trekking itinerary by Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd., designed for adventurous travelers with limited time in Nepal. This short yet comprehensive trek covers two of the most spectacular and culturally rich regions in the Himalayas—Tsum Valley and the Manaslu Circuit—in just under two weeks.
This express trekking package begins with a private jeep drive from Kathmandu to Jagat, allowing for a quick and comfortable start. Unlike longer versions of the trek, this plan gets you directly into the heart of the Himalayas by minimizing road travel time. On the same day, you’ll start trekking to Philim, a peaceful village that marks the gateway to the remote Tsum Valley.
From Philim, the trail takes you into Lower Tsum Valley, reaching Chumling, a scenic village surrounded by pine forests and ancient Buddhist chortens. As you ascend into Upper Tsum Valley, you’ll pass through the culturally vibrant village of Chhekamparo (Chokhangparo), known for its traditional Tibetan-influenced architecture and monastery-filled landscapes. The trail then leads to Mu Gompa, one of the highest and most sacred monasteries in the region, offering a spiritual experience along with jaw-dropping views of the Ganesh Himal and surrounding peaks.
The return journey merges into the Manaslu Circuit, where the trek continues through the alpine village of Deng, lush forests, and high Himalayan terrain. Each step introduces you to a mix of natural beauty and cultural immersion. As you move through Namrung, you’ll see increasing Tibetan influence in the lifestyle, language, and religion of the people. The trail then ascends to Samagaon, a major settlement with panoramic views of Mount Manaslu (8,163m) and home to the famous Pungyen Gompa.
The journey continues with a high-altitude trek to Dharamsala, the last stop before crossing the formidable Larkya La Pass (5,106m). After a challenging but unforgettable crossing, you’ll descend to Bhimtang, a stunning high alpine meadow, and then to Tilje, a charming Gurung village nestled in the Annapurna region.
The trek ends with a scenic drive back to Kathmandu, leaving you with incredible memories of remote valleys, high passes, and ancient monasteries.
This 12-day Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is ideal for trekkers seeking a less-crowded, culturally rich, and physically rewarding Himalayan adventure. With private transportation, professional guides, and expertly managed logistics, Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd. ensures a safe and efficient experience for travelers with limited time.
Whether you’re an experienced trekker or a cultural explorer, this trek offers the perfect mix of scenery, tradition, and challenge—all within 12 days.
Your adventure begins with an early morning private jeep drive from Kathmandu to Jagat. The scenic journey takes approximately 10 to 12 hours along rugged mountain roads, offering stunning views of terraced fields and river valleys. Upon reaching Jagat, you start trekking the same day towards Philim, a beautiful village known as the gateway to Tsum Valley. This short trek introduces you to the local culture and pristine nature as you settle into the tranquil surroundings of Philim.
Today’s trek leads you deeper into the Lower Tsum Valley, trekking from Philim to Chumling. The hike takes about 7 to 9 hours and traverses diverse landscapes including dense forests, traditional villages, and suspension bridges. Chumling is a picturesque village surrounded by lush pine forests and ancient Buddhist shrines, offering a peaceful environment to rest and absorb local culture.
On Day 3, you ascend into the Upper Tsum Valley, trekking from Chumling to Chokhangparo. The trail is moderately challenging and takes approximately 5 to 6 hours. This area is rich in Tibetan Buddhist culture, with many monasteries, mani walls, and prayer flags decorating the path. Chokhangparo offers stunning mountain views and a chance to experience the unique lifestyle of the valley’s inhabitants.
The trek continues for 6 to 7 hours today as you make your way to Nile and then to the sacred Mu Gompa (Monastery). Mu Gompa is one of the highest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Nepal, perched high above the valley. This serene location offers breathtaking views of the Ganesh Himal and the surrounding peaks, making it a spiritual highlight of the trek.
Today you retrace your steps, trekking back from Mu Gompa to Chokhangparo. The 5 to 6-hour descent allows you to revisit the peaceful environment of Upper Tsum Valley, with plenty of time to appreciate the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region.
You continue your descent into Lower Tsum Valley as you trek back from Chokhangparo to Chumling. This 6 to 7-hour day offers more opportunity to interact with local villagers and enjoy the tranquil forested trails that characterize this remote Himalayan valley.
Descending further today, you trek from Chumling to Deng, a larger village that marks the entry point to the Manaslu region. The trail takes approximately 6 to 7 hours, passing through farmland, forests, and small settlements. Deng is an important stop with local shops and teahouses, giving trekkers a chance to rest and resupply.
The trail today ascends steadily towards Namrung over 5 to 6 hours. This village reflects a strong Tibetan influence, with prayer flags, mani walls, and traditional houses. The views begin to open up as you get closer to the higher alpine environment of the Manaslu region.
Today’s 6 to 7-hour trek leads you to Samagaon, a key village in the Manaslu region. Samagaon is known for its spectacular views of Mount Manaslu (8,163m) and is home to the historic Pungyen Gompa monastery. The village offers good facilities for trekkers, including guesthouses and cafes.
You will trek for about 4 to 5 hours today, ascending from Samagaon to Dharamsala (also called Larkya Phedi), the base camp for the Larkya La Pass. This area lies beneath towering glaciers and snowfields, offering dramatic high-altitude landscapes and a chance to acclimatize before the challenging pass crossing.
The longest and most demanding day of the trek, you will cross the Larkya La Pass, the highest point of the trek at 5,106 meters. The trek takes around 8 to 9 hours and includes steep ascents and descents. The panoramic views from the pass are unforgettable. After crossing, you descend to the serene alpine village of Bimtang, where you can relax and celebrate completing the toughest part of your journey.
The final trekking day involves descending from Bimtang to Tilje, a comfortable 6 to 7-hour walk through forests and terraced fields. From Tilje, you take a drive to Besisahar and then continue back to Kathmandu by private vehicle, concluding your 12-day Manaslu Tsum Valley adventure. Expect the drive to take 10 to 11 hours, offering one last chance to enjoy the dramatic mountain scenery before reaching the capital.
The following information will give you some idea about what you need to bring for the trek. It is important that you do not forget the essential items, as this will determine your comfort and safety on the trek. Equally important is that you do not burden yourself with unnecessary equipment on the trek.

The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek passes through restricted regions that require several permits. These include the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit, Tsum Valley Permit, Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). All permits must be arranged through a registered trekking company. Independent trekking is prohibited in this area, so going with a licensed guide is mandatory.
To ensure both legal compliance and safety, all trekkers must be accompanied by a government-licensed trekking guide. Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd. provides professional guides who are not only trained in high-altitude safety but also have in-depth knowledge of local culture, trails, and emergency response. Trekking with a guide adds safety, cultural context, and logistical ease.
The ideal time for the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These months offer clear skies, mild temperatures, and excellent mountain views. The trails are more stable, and weather conditions are generally favorable. Monsoon and winter treks are not advisable due to landslides, slippery paths, and potential snowfall.
This 12-day version of the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is fast-paced and physically demanding. With daily hikes of 6 to 9 hours and significant elevation gain, trekkers should be in good physical condition. Endurance, cardiovascular strength, and previous hiking experience at altitude will help you enjoy the trek more comfortably and safely.
Parts of the trek exceed 5,000 meters, especially during the Larkya La Pass crossing. Proper acclimatization is crucial. Symptoms like headaches, nausea, and fatigue can occur if ascent is too fast. Sherpa Expedition and Trekking includes altitude management in the itinerary, and guides are trained to monitor symptoms and respond appropriately. Drinking plenty of water, walking at a steady pace, and avoiding alcohol help minimize risks.
Accommodation is in basic mountain teahouses with simple beds, shared toilets, and limited menus. Electricity may be available in some villages for an extra fee, but it's not guaranteed. Internet and mobile signal are weak or unavailable in most areas, especially in Tsum Valley. Trekkers should carry a power bank and be prepared to disconnect from the digital world during the trek.
The Tsum Valley and Manaslu region are steeped in Tibetan Buddhist culture. Travelers are expected to show cultural respect—walk clockwise around stupas and mani walls, avoid touching sacred objects, and dress modestly. Always ask permission before photographing people or religious sites. Honoring local customs not only shows respect but also deepens your connection to the region.

I signed up for the Annapurna Base Camp trek with Sherpa Expedition based on a friend’s recommendation, and now I can confidently say it was the best travel decision I’ve ever made. Our guide, Tshering, was truly special. Calm, experienced, and incredibly warm-hearted, he guided us through every step with confidence and care. What I admired most was how he made sure everyone in the group felt supported. Whether it was helping with altitude or simply offering a kind word during steep climbs, he was always there. The trek itself was stunning—every day revealed a new landscape and view. We trekked through rhododendron forests, past rivers and waterfalls, and finally reached the snow-filled amphitheater of Annapurna Base Camp. Sherpa Expedition managed all logistics perfectly—from flights to accommodation to delicious meals at the tea houses. Tshering taught us about the culture, pointed out peaks, and even made us laugh during the tough sections. The views from base camp were beyond anything I’ve ever seen—pure magic. I left Nepal with new friendships and a heart full of gratitude. Thank you, Tshering, and thank you, Sherpa Expedition, for an unforgettable experience.
Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp was one of the most magical experiences of my life. Sherpa Expedition made the entire journey smooth and stress-free, and a huge part of that was thanks to our guide, Dendi. His professionalism, combined with his kindness, made him the perfect companion for this adventure. Dendi was extremely knowledgeable and knew the region inside out—he explained the culture, the peaks, and ensured we were adjusting well to the altitude. Every day was an adventure—crossing rivers, walking through thick forest trails, and climbing toward snow-covered landscapes. Sherpa Expedition’s planning was excellent. The flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara was on time, the porters were friendly and hardworking, and the tea houses we stayed in were comfortable and offered surprisingly good food. Dendi checked our health daily, helped with gear issues, and created a supportive group atmosphere. When we finally reached base camp, the sheer beauty brought tears to my eyes. It felt like standing in the heart of nature. This was not just a trek, but an emotional and beautiful journey. I’m thankful to Dendi and the Sherpa Expedition team. I would absolutely recommend this company for anyone looking to experience the Himalayas.
My brother and I had a great trip to the Everest Base Camp. Together with Santa our very well informed gide, who took care of us in a fantastic way and gave us much information during the hike, and Gulzen our porter (who carried each day our two bags of 10kg each plus his own bag....unbelievable). We had a wonderful time in the beautiful Himalayas, it was a lifetime experience!
