MANASLU TSUM VALLEY TREK 13 DAYS

The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek – 13 Days is a fast-paced yet immersive journey crafted by Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd. for those with limited time but a deep desire to explore the remote beauty of the Manaslu region and the mystical Tsum Valley. This condensed adventure blends culture, nature, and high-altitude trekking into one unforgettable experience.

Beginning from Kathmandu, this trek swiftly transports you to the starting point at Jagat via private jeep, ensuring minimal travel hassle and maximum time on the trail. From the very first day, you are immersed in the raw landscapes of the Manaslu Conservation Area, home to diverse flora and fauna, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and stunning Himalayan views.

The Tsum Valley, often referred to as the "Hidden Valley," is a sacred Himalayan pilgrimage site with deep Tibetan Buddhist roots. Trekking through Chumling, Chhekampar, and eventually to Mu Gompa, you’ll witness an untouched culture, traditional stone villages, mani walls, and serene gompas nestled beneath towering peaks. This region remained restricted until 2008, preserving its ancient heritage and spiritual ambiance, far removed from the crowded trails of other popular treks in Nepal.

After reaching the spiritual heights of Mu Gompa, the trail rejoins the Manaslu Circuit, continuing toward the rugged beauty of Deng, Namrung, and the culturally rich village of Samagaon. With Mt. Manaslu (8,163m) ever-looming in the backdrop, the trail ascends through dramatic alpine landscapes, past glacial rivers and yak pastures.

Although condensed, this 13-day trek doesn't compromise on experience. You'll encounter the warmth of the local Tibetan-influenced communities, walk through rhododendron forests, traverse suspension bridges, and enjoy breathtaking panoramas of Himalchuli, Ganesh Himal, and Manaslu itself.

Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd. has fine-tuned this itinerary to offer a balance of adventure and cultural immersion. Their expert guides ensure safety, comfort, and insightful knowledge throughout the journey. This trek is ideal for physically fit individuals who want to experience the essence of both the Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit in a shorter timeframe.

Ending at Dharapani, the journey loops back to Kathmandu by private transport, wrapping up a whirlwind exploration of one of Nepal’s most mystical and rewarding trekking regions.

Whether you’re a seasoned trekker or a cultural enthusiast looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure, the 13 Days Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is a perfect blend of natural grandeur and spiritual depth – all within a limited time frame.

Book your adventure today with Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd. and discover why this trek is a hidden gem in the Himalayas.

ITINERARY

Expand All

Your journey begins early with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jagat by private jeep, passing through lush hills, river valleys, and rural villages. From Jagat, you’ll continue your adventure on foot, trekking a few hours to reach Philim, a charming Gurung village known for its terraced fields and Buddhist influence. This is a long but rewarding day, setting the pace for your adventure ahead.

Today’s trail ascends steadily as you enter the Tsum Valley, a hidden gem known for its Tibetan Buddhist culture. Trekking through pine forests and small settlements, you’ll reach Chumling, also known as Lower Tsum. Here, ancient monasteries and traditional stone houses await, surrounded by views of the Ganesh Himal range.

The trail leads deeper into the Tsum Valley, crossing suspension bridges and winding through alpine forests. Arriving at Chokhangparo, you enter Upper Tsum Valley, a highland plateau filled with cultural treasures. The village offers stunning mountain vistas and an immersive local experience amid ancient traditions and Buddhist chortens.

Today you trek toward the spiritual heart of the Tsum Valley, reaching Mu Gompa, one of the highest and most sacred monasteries in the region. Along the way, you pass yak pastures, mani walls, and remote villages. Once at Nile or Mu Gompa, you’ll enjoy peaceful surroundings and dramatic Himalayan backdrops.

After a morning exploration of Mu Gompa and the surrounding area, you’ll retrace your steps back to Chokhangparo. The descent offers new perspectives of the valley and a chance to revisit the unique local culture in a more relaxed setting.

As you leave the Upper Tsum Valley, you’ll follow the trail back down to Chumling. The return journey allows you to appreciate the dramatic landscapes and spiritual ambiance of the valley once more, making for a scenic and satisfying day on the trail.

Rejoining the Manaslu Circuit, you’ll descend through lush greenery and cross multiple suspension bridges over the Budi Gandaki River. The trail to Deng is scenic, lined with cascading waterfalls, rocky cliffs, and local settlements.

Today’s walk ascends steadily through dense forests and traditional villages like Ghap. Upon reaching Namrung, you’ll notice a shift in architecture and culture, reflecting strong Tibetan influence. This village offers great views of Manaslu and Himalchuli peaks.

Trekking through alpine landscapes, you pass through Lho and Shyala, two picturesque villages offering striking views of Mt. Manaslu. By afternoon, you arrive at Samagaon, a culturally rich settlement and a key acclimatization point along the route.

Today you ascend further to Dharamsala, the base camp for the Larkya La Pass. The trail becomes more rugged, and altitude gains are noticeable. This is a shorter yet crucial day to prepare for the challenging crossing ahead.

A major highlight of the trek, today you cross the Larkya La Pass, one of the highest and most scenic passes in Nepal. The climb is challenging but incredibly rewarding, with panoramic views of Himlung, Cheo Himal, and Annapurna II. Descend to Bimtang, a peaceful valley surrounded by peaks.

Descending through rhododendron forests and charming villages like Tilije, today’s trek leads to Dharapani, where the Manaslu Circuit joins the Annapurna region. It's a long but scenic descent with plenty of natural beauty.

After breakfast, a private jeep will take you from Dharapani back to Kathmandu. Enjoy the changing scenery as you return to city life with unforgettable memories of the Manaslu Tsum Valley adventure.

GOOD TO KNOW

Good to Know – Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek 13 Days

Before embarking on the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek – 13 Days with Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd., there are several important things to keep in mind to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and rewarding experience:

🏔️ Remote & Restricted Region

Both Manaslu and Tsum Valley are part of restricted trekking zones. You’ll need special permits, which are all arranged by Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd.

A licensed guide is mandatory—independent trekking is not allowed in this region.

🚗 Private Jeep Transfer

The trek begins with a private jeep ride from Kathmandu to Jagat, which is more comfortable and time-saving compared to public buses. This helps you make the most of your 13-day itinerary.

🥾 Physical Fitness Required

This is a moderately challenging to strenuous trek, especially due to rapid altitude gain and long walking days.

Trekkers should be in good physical condition and ideally have prior hiking experience.

🕉️ Cultural Sensitivity

The Tsum Valley is a highly spiritual area with strong Tibetan Buddhist influence.

Respect local customs: always walk clockwise around mani walls and stupas, ask before taking photos, and dress modestly.

🏨 Basic Teahouse Accommodation

Lodging along the route is in local teahouses—simple but comfortable enough for trekkers.

Expect shared bathrooms, limited hot showers, and basic meals like dal bhat, noodles, soups, and Tibetan bread.

🌡️ Weather & Best Seasons

The best times to trek are March to May (spring) and September to November (autumn) for clear skies and stable weather.

Monsoon (June–August) can bring landslides, while winter (December–February) sees heavy snow at higher altitudes.

🩺 Altitude Sickness Awareness

The trek crosses elevations over 3,700m, so there is a risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

Your guide is trained to recognize symptoms and will ensure proper acclimatization and pacing.

📶 Connectivity & Electricity

Mobile and Wi-Fi signals are limited or unavailable in many areas.

Charging is available in some teahouses for a small fee—carry a power bank or solar charger.

💰 Permits & Inclusions

Necessary permits include:

Manaslu Restricted Area Permit

Tsum Valley Permit

Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP)

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

All of these are included when you book through Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd.

FAQS

Expand All

This is a moderate to challenging trek, with long walking days, high altitude, and limited rest days. It's suitable for trekkers with good fitness and some prior hiking experience.

Yes. You’ll need the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit, Tsum Valley Permit, MCAP (Manaslu Conservation Area Permit), and ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit). Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd. handles all permits for you.

The best seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). These months offer the clearest skies, best mountain views, and more stable weather.

Although this is a fast-paced trek, the itinerary is carefully designed to include natural acclimatization through gradual ascent and rest days at higher altitudes.

You’ll stay in basic mountain teahouses with simple rooms, shared toilets, and limited amenities. Most offer local meals, warm drinks, and sometimes charging facilities.

Connectivity is limited or unavailable, especially in Tsum Valley and higher elevations. We recommend informing your contacts in advance and bringing a power bank.

Essentials include:

  • Warm layers and down jacket
  • Sleeping bag (rated -10°C or lower)
  • Headlamp, trekking poles, and first aid kit
  • Sturdy boots, gloves, and sun protection
A detailed packing list is provided after booking.

Meals are simple but nourishing, typically including dal bhat (rice and lentils), noodles, soups, Tibetan bread, and occasional eggs or vegetables. Vegetarian options are widely available.

The trek reaches over 3,700 meters, so altitude sickness is a risk. Our guides are trained in AMS prevention, and the itinerary is paced to allow for acclimatization.

We are a local, licensed trekking company with over 20 years of experience. Our expert guides, personalized service, private transport, and strong safety standards make us a trusted partner for your Himalayan adventure.

I signed up for the Annapurna Base Camp trek with Sherpa Expedition based on a friend’s recommendation, and now I can confidently say it was the best travel decision I’ve ever made. Our guide, Tshering, was truly special. Calm, experienced, and incredibly warm-hearted, he guided us through every step with confidence and care. What I admired most was how he made sure everyone in the group felt supported. Whether it was helping with altitude or simply offering a kind word during steep climbs, he was always there. The trek itself was stunning—every day revealed a new landscape and view. We trekked through rhododendron forests, past rivers and waterfalls, and finally reached the snow-filled amphitheater of Annapurna Base Camp. Sherpa Expedition managed all logistics perfectly—from flights to accommodation to delicious meals at the tea houses. Tshering taught us about the culture, pointed out peaks, and even made us laugh during the tough sections. The views from base camp were beyond anything I’ve ever seen—pure magic. I left Nepal with new friendships and a heart full of gratitude. Thank you, Tshering, and thank you, Sherpa Expedition, for an unforgettable experience.

Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp was one of the most magical experiences of my life. Sherpa Expedition made the entire journey smooth and stress-free, and a huge part of that was thanks to our guide, Dendi. His professionalism, combined with his kindness, made him the perfect companion for this adventure. Dendi was extremely knowledgeable and knew the region inside out—he explained the culture, the peaks, and ensured we were adjusting well to the altitude. Every day was an adventure—crossing rivers, walking through thick forest trails, and climbing toward snow-covered landscapes. Sherpa Expedition’s planning was excellent. The flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara was on time, the porters were friendly and hardworking, and the tea houses we stayed in were comfortable and offered surprisingly good food. Dendi checked our health daily, helped with gear issues, and created a supportive group atmosphere. When we finally reached base camp, the sheer beauty brought tears to my eyes. It felt like standing in the heart of nature. This was not just a trek, but an emotional and beautiful journey. I’m thankful to Dendi and the Sherpa Expedition team. I would absolutely recommend this company for anyone looking to experience the Himalayas.

My brother and I had a great trip to the Everest Base Camp. Together with Santa our very well informed gide, who took care of us in a fantastic way and gave us much information during the hike, and Gulzen our porter (who carried each day our two bags of 10kg each plus his own bag....unbelievable). We had a wonderful time in the beautiful Himalayas, it was a lifetime experience!
