TSUM VALLEY TREK 10 DAYS

The Tsum Valley Trek – 10 Days is a uniquely curated Himalayan adventure, specially designed by Sherpa Expedition for trekkers looking to explore one of Nepal’s most secluded and culturally rich regions. This itinerary focuses exclusively on the Tsum Valley, offering an immersive journey into Tibetan Buddhist traditions, untouched landscapes, and centuries-old monasteries. The trek begins and ends in Kathmandu, with a private jeep drive to and from Jagat, ensuring a comfortable and efficient start and end to your trek.

Your journey starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jagat by private 4WD jeep, which takes approximately 8–10 hours. This drive passes through beautiful river valleys, rural villages, and green hills before reaching Jagat, the official gateway to the Manaslu Conservation Area. From Jagat, the real trekking experience begins as you follow a gradually ascending trail through Lokpa and into the mystical Tsum Valley.

As you hike from Lokpa to Chumling, the gateway to Lower Tsum, you’ll notice a significant shift in landscape and culture. This region is heavily influenced by Tibetan Buddhism, and you’ll encounter ancient mani walls, chortens, and prayer flags fluttering in the wind. The next stop is Chhokang Paro (or Chekampar), a beautiful village surrounded by dramatic Himalayan peaks and home to warm-hearted locals who maintain their traditional lifestyle.

The highlight of this trek is the journey to Mu Gompa, the highest point of the route at around 3,700 meters. Mu Gompa is one of the oldest and most significant Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the valley. Located near the Tibetan border, it offers an exceptional view of the Ganesh Himal and Shringi Himal ranges, along with a spiritual atmosphere that draws both trekkers and pilgrims.

After exploring Mu Gompa, you retrace your steps through Chhokang Paro and descend back to Chumling and Lokpa, enjoying the peaceful surroundings, authentic village life, and warm hospitality. The trek ends in Jagat, where your private jeep will be waiting to drive you back to Kathmandu, concluding your 10-day Himalayan adventure.

This 10-day Tsum Valley Trek is ideal for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path trekking experience filled with cultural immersion, scenic beauty, and spiritual discovery. Designed and operated exclusively by Sherpa Expedition, the itinerary ensures smooth logistics, experienced guides, private transportation, and personalized service throughout the journey.

The package includes all necessary permits, such as the Tsum Valley Restricted Area Permit and the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit, making it a hassle-free experience for trekkers. As a relatively less-traveled route, Tsum Valley remains pristine and peaceful, offering an authentic alternative to the more commercial trekking trails in Nepal.

Whether you're a seasoned trekker or a curious traveler seeking solitude and culture in the Himalayas, this 10-day Tsum Valley trek delivers an unforgettable journey into one of Nepal’s most hidden gems.

Day 1 : Drive from Kathmandu to Jagat (1,300m) – Duration: 10–12 hours.

Your adventure begins with an overland journey from Kathmandu to Jagat in a private jeep. The drive takes you through scenic hillsides, riverside villages, and terraced fields along the Trishuli and Budhi Gandaki Rivers. After a long but rewarding drive, you arrive at Jagat — a small, traditional village and your first overnight stop.

Day 2 : Trek from Jagat to Lokpa (1,800m) – Duration: 5–6 hours.

The trek starts with a scenic ascent through subtropical forests and traditional villages. Cross multiple suspension bridges and walk alongside the Budhi Gandaki River. Enter the Manaslu Conservation Area, and continue toward Lokpa, the first village that connects to the restricted Tsum Valley region.

Day 3 : Trek from Lokpa to Chumling (2,390m) – Duration: 5–6 hours.

Today’s trail leads deeper into Lower Tsum Valley. The path offers beautiful views of Ganesh Himal and crosses several landslide-prone sections. Reach Chumling, a peaceful village with traditional stone houses and ancient Buddhist stupas. Explore local monasteries and learn about Tibetan-influenced culture.

Day 4 : Trek from Chumling to Chokhangparo (3,010m) – Duration: 4–5 hours.

Continue ascending through alpine terrain, crossing wooden bridges and climbing up to Upper Tsum Valley. Reach Chokhangparo, a cluster of picturesque villages situated on a plateau. On clear days, enjoy panoramic views of Himalchuli and Ganesh Himal. This region is rich in Tibetan Buddhist heritage, with prayer flags, mani walls, and ancient monasteries along the trail.

Day 5 : Trek from Chokhangparo to Nile (3,361m) – Duration: 5–6 hours.

The trail follows the Siar Khola River as you trek further into the high valley. Pass through small settlements like Lamagaon and Pangdun, with numerous chortens and mani walls along the way. Arrive at Nile, one of the last villages before the Tibetan border and a peaceful base for visiting Mu Gompa.

Day 6 : Visit Mu Gompa (3,700m) & return to Nile – Duration: 4–5 hours.

Take a morning hike to Mu Gompa, the oldest and most sacred monastery in the region. Located at the base of high Himalayan peaks, this spiritual site offers panoramic views and insight into monastic life. After exploring, return to Nile for overnight rest.

Day 7 : Trek from Nile to Chumling (2,386m) – Duration: 6–7 hours.

Begin your descent as you retrace the trail through Chokhangparo and back to Chumling. The downhill walk provides new perspectives of the landscape and opportunities to reflect on the serene beauty of Tsum Valley.

Day 8 : Trek from Chumling to Lokpa (1,800m) – Duration: 5–6 hours.

Continue descending through forests and river valleys to reach Lokpa. The trail becomes easier as you leave the high-altitude terrain behind. Lokpa serves as your final night in the Tsum region.

Day 9 : Trek from Lokpa to Jagat (1,300m) – Duration: 5–6 hours.

Follow the trail back to Jagat, where your trekking journey started. The familiar route now feels different, as you pass through the landscapes and villages you've come to appreciate more deeply. Rest and relax before the long drive back to Kathmandu.

Day 10 : Drive from Jagat to Kathmandu – Duration: 10–12 hours.

A full-day drive takes you back to Kathmandu in a private jeep. Enjoy your last views of the countryside, river valleys, and Himalayan foothills. Upon arrival in the capital, your unforgettable 10-day journey into the remote Tsum Valley comes to an end.
