The main summit is between Baltistan, in the Gilgit–Baltistan region of northern Pakistan.
K2 is also known as Chhogori/Qogir, Ketu/Kechu, and Mt. Godwin-Austen. It is also referred to by some countries as“Savage Mountain” due to the extreme difficulty in climbing the mountain. It has the second-highest fatality rate among the eight thousand meter plus peaks. There are several climbing routes in K2 from Pakistan. A record of 78 % of climbers successfully reach the summit through the South-side route. The remaining 22 % of climbers climb the North, East, West ridge, Southwest Pillar "Magic Line", South Face or "Polish Line", Northwest Face, or Northwest Ridge. The normal climbing route (North ridge) is also known as the Abruzzi Spur. According to the Pakistan government’s records, no one has climbed the East Face of the mountain due to the extreme level of difficulty. It has never been climbed during the winter season.
Uma Holidays, Travel & Tours offer the Mt. K2 expedition every year during the summer season due to the unpredictable weather, road, snow conditions, temperature, and flights at other times of the year.
The first expedition to climb K2 was completed by an Italian team, led by Mr. Ardito Desiofinally. His team comprised of Mr. Lino Lacedelli and Mr. Achille Compagnoni who successfully climbed to the summit of K2 via the Abruzzi Spur on July 31, 1954. K2 is not for the light-hearted or inexperienced climber. The temptation to climb it arises from its isolation, extreme weather conditions, height and the technical nature of the climb. Uma Holidays, Travel & Tours keep team sizes small and require that climbers are experienced and hold the necessary mountaineering qualifications. They will have the support of some of the finest experienced climbing Sherpa's and mountain guides in the world.
Mount K2 (8611m /28,251ft) summit is located at: Latitude 35°52′57″N longitude 76°30′48″E. The Advanced base camp is always fixed around (5305m/17,400ft). Most expedition teams fix four camps above the Advanced Base Camp. Camp I (6060m/19,881ft) Camp II (6700m/21,981ft) Camp III (7250m/23,786ft) and Camp IV (7700m/25,262ft).
